The Story Behind Little Willows Lifestyle: Redefining How Our Toddlers Sleep
Saturday, the 12th of July 2025, is a date engraved in our minds for all the wrong reasons.
Our daughter, Willow, was just 8 months old. Fresh out of the bath, we placed her sitting safely in the middle of a queen-sized bed while quickly grabbing a nappy. In the blink of an eye, she threw herself forward, falling headfirst off the side of the bed.
Thankfully, she escaped with just a bump and a bruise on her forehead. But as parents, the terrifying vision of her falling stayed with Tammie and me. It was the catalyst for a realization: there had to be a safer, better option for our children.
From a Modern Scam to a Real Mission
Determined to find a floor bed that was both beautiful and safe, Tammie spotted a gorgeously designed bed on an Instagram story ad. Thinking it was exactly what we needed, she added it to her cart and checked out. Immediately, her banking app flagged the transaction as suspicious.
After digging into Reddit threads, we realized we had fallen into a widespread scam targeting parents just like us.
But it got me thinking: If so many parents are searching for this product, why don't we create it ourselves—but do it right?
For nearly 12 months, good enough was never an option. We vetted suppliers, rejected prototypes, and worked late into the night. Four samples later, we perfected it: the Little Willows Lifestyle all-foam, premium Montessori floor bed. No wood. No springs. Just pure, child-safe comfort.
Why a Floor Bed? The Power of Self-Directed Learning
We spend more time in our bedrooms than anywhere else in the house. For toddlers, their bed shouldn't feel like a cage—it should be a launchpad for physical and mental development.
By combining Tammie’s passion for maternal nurturing with my background in international competitive weightlifting and sports science, we realized the Montessori floor bed serves two incredible purposes:
-
The Nurturing Haven: It provides the perfect, comfortable space for co-sleeping, co-regulation, side-lying breastfeeding, and deep parental connection without the physical barrier of cot bars.
-
Physical & Mental Development: From an exercise science perspective, a floor bed promotes autonomy. It allows toddlers to practice climbing safely, building essential strength, motor skills, and proprioception (the awareness of their body in space).
Mentally, a floor bed eliminates the "trapped" feeling of a traditional cot. When wake-up time comes, toddlers experience a calm, self-directed transition into their day, fostering autonomous learning.
Our Mission: At Little Willows Lifestyle, we want to challenge the status quo. You don't have to use a traditional cot just because "that's how it's always been done." There is a safer, more beautiful, and developmentally empowering alternative.
Welcome to our journey. We built this for Willow, and now, we are so proud to share it with your family.
